Theatre Tempo

Theater Tempo has been producing theater for children since 1984. Theater Tempo's most important goal is to produce plays in which children can play an active part and that will enrich their creative world. Attaching importance to traditional forms such as the art of the Meddah (see note under play “Snow-White Rabbit”) , and the Turkish shadow show Karagoz (see our section on the “ Karagoz Show”) , Theater Tempo believes it has a duty to include in its repertoire all puppet techniques that are relevant to its field, to perfect itself in these techniques and to introduce them to the audience.

Theater Tempo endeavors to produce theater at international standards and the reactions it has received at festivals has proved that it has succeeded in doing so. A few years ago Theater Tempo opened Turkey 's first established Karagoz and puppet theater in a rented site, which later had to be closed. Tempo is now traviling to schools and cities.

Since 1990 Theater Tempo has also been regularly producing children's programs for Turkish Television - TRT. At present their program ' OYKU ATOLYESI ' (The Story Workshop) is broadcasted on TRT-1 every Monday and TRT-INT every Tuesday. The program is prepared by Tempo's Artistic Director Haluk Yuce and Music Consultant Assoc. Prof. Nedim Yildiz. The program addresses children between 7-12 years old and its aim is to have the children create stories through movement and thus set their creativity in motion.

Theater Tempo has received a special award given by the Art Association . And in 2006 Tempo received the year's Theater Award given by the Ankara Group of the Theater Critics Union .
